Dog Moms, You’re The Heart Of Your Pup’s World

Dog on cushion holds a notepad with "Mom" in a red heart, and a pink tulip. Background is a minimalist room, mood is affectionate.

Whether you’re cleaning up muddy paws, blending up gut-soothing meals, or whispering sweet nothings during a thunderstorm, your love knows no bounds. As a fellow dog mom, I know what it’s like to celebrate every tail wag and worry over every upset tummy.

That’s why this month, I’m celebrating you—the nurturer, protector, and gut-health guardian your pup counts on.

Dog Moms, May is Your Month!

With National Dog Mom Day on May 10 and Mother’s Day on May 11, it’s time to honor the unconditional love you pour into your pup’s life—and how you can nurture their health naturally.

At DogIBS, our mission is to empower dog moms just like you with natural, gut-focused tools to help your dog thrive. As a proud dog mom to Sonnie—my inspiration for launching DogIBS—I’ve lived through the panic of tummy troubles and the relief of seeing him heal through whole foods and functional support. That experience fuels my passion to help your pup feel their best, too.

The Dog Mom Role: Guardians of Gut Health

Dog moms are superheroes in sneakers. You’re the one setting the schedule, mixing meals, noticing when something’s “off,” and calling the shots to keep your pup balanced—especially when it comes to their sensitive stomach.

Why Gut Health Matters More Than You Think:

  • It’s the foundation of your dog’s immune system (over 70% lives in the gut!)

  • A healthy gut reduces IBS symptoms like diarrhea, bloating, and food sensitivities

  • A balanced microbiome = a calmer, more content pup (yes, gut health affects mood!)

Every mealtime decision, every cuddle, every calming walk—it’s all shaping their gut health.

🐾 Natural Care Tips: A Dog Mom’s Toolkit for a Happy Gut

1. Feed Whole Foods for Gut Healing

Sweet potatoes, pumpkins, and zucchini slices on a marble countertop. The setting is a kitchen with a calm and orderly mood.

Processed kibble is often packed with fillers, preservatives, and ingredients that irritate the gut. Whole foods, on the other hand, are soothing and nourishing.

Try This:

  • Bone broth made at home: Simmer chicken bones in water with a splash of apple cider vinegar for 8–12 hours. It’s rich in collagen and healing for the gut lining.

  • Add a spoonful over meals or freeze into paw-shaped cubes for a fun treat.

Other gut-healing staples:

  • Cooked sweet potatoes

  • Steamed pumpkin

  • Lightly sautéed zucchini (raw is even better) or squash

2. Manage Stress with Cuddles and Calm

Stress is a major IBS trigger—for humans and dogs. Even fireworks, travel, or a shift in your schedule can send their digestion into a tailspin.

Dog Mom Tip:

  • Cuddle daily! Physical touch boosts oxytocin, the “calm hormone,” for both of you.

  • Try a quiet bedtime ritual: gentle brushing, soft music, or a lavender-scented dog bed (lavender is safe in small amounts when used properly).

3. Build a Routine for Digestive Stability

Dogs love predictability. Regular meal time schedule and walks help sync their gut’s natural rhythm.

Example:

  • Feed breakfast and dinner at the same time daily.

  • Take short walks after meals to stimulate digestion.

Consistency = less bloating, firmer stools, and fewer emergency potty breaks.

4. Add Natural Gut Boosters

Jar of white yogurt, bowl of golden honey, and bowl of seeds on a wooden surface. Warm, natural tones create a cozy ambiance.

A few simple add-ins can do wonders for your pup’s microbiome:

✅ Plain goat kefir (1 tsp–1 tbsp depending on size) – packed with probiotics

✅ Bone Broth with a Gut Twist – Add in a pinch of turmeric and ginger for extra anti-inflammatory support (great for dogs with IBS or gut sensitivity).

✅ Fennel Seeds (ground) – Helps relieve gas and bloating. Add a pinch to meals once daily, especially for gassy pups.  Or make them the Magic Tea Recipe and give daily as much as you want. Get the recipe HERE.

At DogIBS, our custom gut support plans often include these ingredients, based on your dog’s unique history and symptoms.

5. Ditch the Junk—Avoid Processed Kibble

Low-quality kibble is like fast food for dogs—cheap, convenient, but damaging over time. Many contain wheat, corn, by-products, and artificial preservatives that wreak havoc on sensitive guts.

Transition Tip:

  • Slowly move toward a whole food or gently cooked diet.

  • Start by replacing 25% of their kibble with real food, and increase gradually over 7–10 days.

Your pup will not only digest better—they’ll glow with energy, a shiny coat, and fewer digestive issues.

💚 Gut Health Focus: How Dog Moms Make a Difference

Science is catching up to what dog moms already know—a happy gut = a happy dog.

  • A natural diet lowers gut inflammation and supports smooth digestion

  • A consistent routine reduces cortisol, the stress hormone that disrupts gut health

As a dog mom, you have the power to change the course of your pup’s wellness—with love and knowledge.
